Designer
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Designer creates visual direction for characters, props, and/or sets as assigned for use by various asset departments. This role creates texture callouts for use by the Surfacing Department, and may create shot guides & set dressing for the Layout Department. This position must work in adherence to budget and schedule constraints while maintaining the show’s overall look and mood, and troubleshoot creative and technical issues as they arise.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Create visual direction for characters, props, and/or sets as assigned for use by various asset departments within the pipeline
Gather suitable reference material from various sources
Produce concept art either manually or digitally
Revise work as per Show Director and/or Art Director feedback Provide creative input where appropriate
Create texture callouts for use by Surfacing Department
May create shot guides & set dressing for use by Layout Department
Work in adherence to budget and schedule constraints while maintaining the show’s overall look and mood
Troubleshoot creative and technical issues as they arise
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
2+ years of Art Department experience, preferably within the feature animated film industry
Completed post-secondary education in classical animation, art fundamentals, or other relevant area of study
Strong drawing & painting skills with the ability to produce visually appealing artwork
Advanced 2D skills in Photoshop, with 3D experience, preferably in Maya
Good understanding of the possibilities and limitations of CG animation
Ability to adapt working style to varying budget and schedule parameters
High level of creativity, with the ability to perform to standard under tight deadlines
Ability to handle feedback and constructive criticism well
Story Artist
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Story Artist develops story ideas and defines individual scenes via still drawings, working from scripts and/or loose outlines. The Story Artist formulates sequences for presentation at story meetings, and revises sequences as per Director feedback. The Story Artist also actively contributes to group brainstorming sessions, and offers creative and resourceful solutions for storyboard-related problems.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop story ideas and define individual scenes via still drawings and sequential drawings working from scripts and/or loose outlines
Formulate sequences for presentation at story meetings
Present material and outline relevant details to Director and peers
Note required revisions
Provide constructive feedback on the work of peers
Revise sequences as per Director feedback
Actively contribute to group brainstorming sessions, and offer creative and resourceful solutions for storyboard-related problems
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
3-5 years of relevant storyboarding experience within the animation industry
Completed post-secondary education in classical or 3D animation, art fundamentals, or other relevant area of study
Strong drawing skills with the ability to produce visually appealing artwork
Experience with digital storyboard programs an asset (i.e. StoryBoard Pro, SketchBook Pro, Photoshop, etc…)
Good understanding of the possibilities and limitations of CG animation
Ability to adapt working style to varying budget and schedule parameters
High level of creativity, with the ability to perform to standard under tight deadlines
Ability to handle feedback and constructive criticism well
Strong creative problem solving skills
High degree of focus, with the ability to concentrate on one concept for long periods of time
Working knowledge of cinematography, composition, film structure, and screen direction
Character Designer

The Character Designer creates visual direction for characters for use by various asset departments. This role creates texture callouts for use by the Surfacing Department, creates facial draw overs for use by the Rigging Department, and may create expression sheets. This position must work in adherence to budget and schedule constraints while maintaining the show’s overall look and mood, and troubleshoot creative and technical issues as they arise.
