POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant Production Manager is assigned to a specific show and works with Production Manager(s) and/or the Associate Producer to ensure that overall production scheduling and budget requirements are met within his or her assigned department(s). This role attends and drives director approval meetings and represents an assigned department in weekly production meetings.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with Production Manager(s) and/or Associate producer to ensure that overall production scheduling and budget requirements are met within assigned department(s)
Manage internal department schedules in line with master production schedule utilizing current processes, and adapt as needed
Schedule big ticket milestones and look at least four weeks ahead to ensure that weekly quotas, department milestones and inventory expectations will be met
Strategize with Department Lead, Senior Management and possibly other APMs to resolve any production and/or inventory issues, and manage any related impact on the budget, schedule and overtime
Work with Department Lead/Head and Artistic Supervisor to cast assignments and issue deadlines to artists, ensuring that assignments are varied for optimum performance and are cast according to individual abilities
Create and maintain reports that clearly illustrate department and individual artist productivity, ensuring that data provided is accurate and valid
Perform frequent walk-arounds to check in with crew, and ensure resolution of any issues that arise
Anticipate internal staffing requirements with assistance from Production Manager and Artistic Supervisor
Communicate pertinent information to fellow production team members as required
Help to ensure that budget and scheduling documents are updated as changes are made to the film’s production flow and/or staffing profile
Collaborate with Department Lead/Head, Production Manager, and Coordinator to ensure that the complexity of work is consistent with critical assumptions and is falling within department budgets and schedules, and flag issues as suitable
Strategize with Department Leads and Senior Management on how to resolve any complexity overages
Evaluate workload to ensure that quotas are realistic and achievable and strategize accordingly
Collaborate with Department Lead/Head and Production Manager to develop and manage workflow process
Keep track of overall inventory so that quotas are met
Attend and drive director approval meetings, ensuring that meetings are run according to studio standards
Supervise and mentor Production Coordinators and Production Assistants
Represent assigned department(s) in weekly production meetings
Report department progress and discuss solutions to any issues impeding the department
Partner with Department Lead, Production Manager, and Senior Management to manage conflict within assigned department, and obtain counsel from Human Resources regarding disciplinary procedures
Ensure that all conflicts and their resolutions are documented, and provide updates for Human Resources and Senior Management
Support and represent directives from the studio and/or production leadership
Partner with Department Lead/Head and Production Manager to manage, motivate and create an environment conducive to achieving quotas and artistic achievements
Perform administrative duties for assigned department(s)
Accurately track vacations, sick days, etc… for department
Review accuracy of timecards prior to submitting to Production Manager or Producer
May assist Production Management with handling transitions
May assist in the recruitment and selection of new hires
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
5-7 years production experience, preferably in CG feature animation (experience on at least 2 full feature movies required)
Completed post-secondary education in production or other relevant area of study
Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word)
Excellent communication and teamwork skills with the confidence to interact with all levels of employees and clients
Superior organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and to manage conflicting interests
Strong attention for detail
Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of performing well in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
Availability to work flexible hours on occasion to meet challenging deadlines
Demonstrated interest in working in animation production
