With our recent releases of Darksiders, UFC and Red Faction, we are well on our way to rebuilding THQ as a high quality, craft driven developer of world class games and transmedia properties. A key to this is our recent announcement to build a new 400 person studio in Montreal where we will develop new IP and partner with our existing studios THQ Studio Montreal is a very unique opportunity to get in at the ground floor and help us build a new and successful culture of creativity, innovation and fun.
We are now recruiting for an Executive Art Director to partner with our Executive team to build the Montreal Art Organization.
Executive Art Director
As a key creative force in the studio and a strong business partner to our studio leaders, you motivate and lead a team that uses innovative and thoughtful visual language along with an expert understanding of cutting edge computer graphics to advance the designs of our games and create deep connections with consumers. You understand the complex requirements of growing and maintaining a world class art organization that consistently delivers compelling experiences on time and on budget. You view tight constraints as opportunities to demonstrate creativity, not as excuses for low production values. You are articulate, able to present complex concepts in a clear and concise manner as well as self motivated, well organized and a lifelong learner. Mentoring and growing people is as important to you is innovating and making games.
Requirements
• A proven history of creating compelling experiences. You have at least 15 years of industry experience, with at least 5 credits as an Art Director or CG Supervisor on a
AAA Game or Feature Film, and you must also have at least 5 years experience managing or other creative leads.
• Accomplished and rounded. You are well a versed craftsperson in all aspects of storytelling, visual language and design process. You understand the important roles of marketing and brand in developing entertainment properties.
• User focused with a deep understanding of user experience and how all aspects of graphics impact a game’s design. A passion for visual language and a design process
• Fantastic client skills. You understand that Client Management is a very important aspect of the role.
• An eagerness to mentor and elevate with other creative people
• Experienced in leading a team of creative leaders while working within tough technical constraints.
• Bilingual is preferred (French and English)

As a key leader in the studio and a strong business partner to our studio leaders, you are responsible for ensuring that the our content teams have the best possible tools, pipelines and technical artists to ensure they can deliver high quality and compelling games on time and on-budget. Using a blend of strong leadership and great client skills along with an expert understanding of cutting edge computer graphics, through your team you enable our designers and artists to advance the designs of our games and push the boundaries of real-time computer graphics. Responsible for the Lighting, FX, Rigging and Technical Art teams, you have a critical eye and are well rounded in production. You view tight constraints as opportunities to demonstrate creativity, not as excuses for low production values. You are articulate, able to present complex concepts in a clear and concise manner while being well organized, self motivated, and a lifelong learner. Mentoring and growing people is as important to you is innovating and making games.
Requirements:
• Ability to architect a production pipeline that sustains multiple generations and genres of products. You have experience in designing pipelines that withstand the test of time and can meet the conflicting needs of art production and real time build requirements, yet are flexible enough to meet the needs of specific projects.
• Fantastic client skills. You understand that Client Management is a very important aspect of the role. Equally, you are comfortable presenting to large and varied groups and can explain complex ideas to lay people and business leaders.
• A proven history of delivering and enabling world class computer generated visuals. You have at least 15 years of industry experience, with at least 5 credits as Technical Art Director or CG Supervisor on AAA Games or Feature Films and you must also have at least 5 years experience managing other creative leads.
• Accomplished and rounded. You have experience having architected and/or built a major content creation pipeline from the ground up. You are well a versed craftsperson with strong skills in lighting, effects, shading languages, scripting (Perl, Python, etc) and tools design. You have a demonstrated history of delivering the highest quality visuals that work within framerate, memory footprint and performance.
• Driven to push boundaries while remaining deeply pragmatic.
• An eagerness to mentor and elevate your staff members.
• Experienced in leading a team of technical and creative leaders while working within tough technical constraints.
• Bilingual is preferred (French and English)
