Jobs at the Ottawa International Animation Festival
Ever dream of working for a major international film festival, where you can immerse yourself in all aspects of event management while working in a fun and action-packed work environment?
The Ottawa International Animation Festival is currently seeking a number of contract personnel to work on our upcoming event taking place from October 20 – 24th, 2010. Be a part of the team that runs this
non-stop showcase of animation that features screenings, workshops, trade events and parties.
The positions are staffed through Employment Ontario’s Job Creation Partnership Program (JCP). It’s a work-training program that gives you a chance to upgrade your skills and put current work experience on your
resume – while you get paid.
Eligibility Criteria:
You must currently be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) payments or have received EI payments within the last 3 years (Reach back status);
Live in the Ottawa area;
You must not leave employment to participate in JCP;
You must not be a current full-time student;
You must have your Employment Insurance status verified;
You may only participate in the JCP once in a 2 year period. (Applicants that do not clearly indicate their ability to meet these criteria in the cover letter will not be considered.)
Salary:
You will be paid the maximum EI earnings ($423) per week.

POSITION: Box Office Coordinator
CONTRACT LENGTH: 26 weeks
START DATE: May 31
END DATE: November 26
JOB SUMMARY: Front-line public relations representative for the OIAF is responsible for all pass sales and answering questions for the general public.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Handle all or forward inquiries from the public via phone, email and fax
• Coordinate pass sales
• Ensure all passes are created, with appropriate labelling and inserts
• Assist with volunteers
• Work with other staff and take on other appropriate projects
SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Excellent communication and people skills
• English essential; spoken French and/or other languages an asset
• Some bookkeeping experience is required; knowledge of Quickbooks an asset
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work through distractions
• Strong computer skills: word processing, database and Internet software
• Must be able to stand for long hours (essential the week of the festival)
POSITION: Guest Services Coordinator
CONTRACT LENGTH: 26 weeks
START DATE: May 31
END DATE: November 26
JOB SUMMARY: Assist the management team by performing administrative tasks related to Animation Festival guests including, but not limited to, making travel and hotel arrangements, handling communications with filmmakers and guests and coordinating festival driver schedules.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Handle all communications with VIP guest and filmmakers
• Coordinate hotels for festival guests and visiting groups.
• Organize travel for VIP guests
• Create a driver’s schedule and supervise drivers during the festival
• Work with other staff and take on other appropriate projects
SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; French
and/or other languages are an asset
• Professional demeanor is essential
• Superior organizational skills
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and database
systems (e.g., Navicat, Joomla, etc.)
• Ability to work under extreme pressure; positive stress management
skills essential
POSITION: Media and Marketing Assistant
CONTRACT LENGTH: 26 weeks
START DATE: May 31
END DATE: November 26
JOB SUMMARY: Public relations assistant to help with creating press releases and marketing materials to promote the Animation Festival.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist the management team with:
• Reviewing films in competition
• Writing media releases
• Pitching stories to media outlets
• Contacting filmmaker for permission to grant interviews
• Securing high-resolution photographs
• TAC media campaign o Updating social networking sites and Festival website
• Arranging press conference
• Monitoring ad deadlines and working with graphic designer on marketing material
• Keeping electronic and hard-copy records of all media and marketing coverage
SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; French and/or other languages are an asset
• Organized and able to consistently meet deadlines
• Knowledge of database software and asset
• Knowledge of InDesign and Adobe design suite an asset
POSITION: Special Events Coordinator
CONTRACT LENGTH: 26 weeks
START DATE: May 31
END DATE: November 26
JOB SUMMARY: Assist with planning all parties and special events, including (but not limited to) the Animator’s Picnic and children’s workshops, as well as soliciting local restaurants and stores to take part in promotional opportunities, and other clerical duties as necessary.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist with the organization of parties and special events during the Festival
• Assist Managing Director by communicating with event sponsors to determine sponsor needs in terms of venues, caterers, festival organizations, entertainment, etc.
• Assist in the preparation of correspondence
• Ensure that our Website host has updated information for the Website, and assisting with updates
• Clerical support
• Solicit participation from local restaurants and businesses and assist with the publication of a local guide for Festival passholders and guests
• Assist with other publications and promotional material
• Work with Festival staff in different capacities as they arise
SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Education or employment background in special events management, communications, film studies or public relations
• Basic knowledge of local restaurants and bars
• Strong computer skills, including word processing, database and
Internet programs• Strong writing and communication skills in English; French and/or other languages an asset
• Ability to use InDesign and Adobe software is an asset
• Physically capable of working long hours, standing for long periods of time and lifting and carrying equipment (NB/ this is essential the week of the Festival)
POSITION: Volunteer Coordinator
CONTRACT LENGTH: 26 weeks
START DATE: May 31
END DATE: November 26
JOB SUMMARY: Helping to coordinator the Ottawa Animation Festival volunteers.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Update the Festival’s online volunteer system to reflect the 2010 schedule
• Helping to create a new level of “team leader” volunteer
• Recruiting new and returning volunteers with general communication, social marketing, postering, and school presentations
• Process and evaluate volunteer applications
• Assign shifts and do follow-up
SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Excellent communication and people skills
• English essential; spoken French and/or other languages an asset
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work through distractions
• Strong computer skills: word processing, database and Internet software
• Good public speaking skills
