I don’t know how many of you noticed, but in yesterday’s post about the digital painting workshop, there’s an interesting detail. It’s being presented by TAAFI.
“What is TAAFI?” you might be asking?
“That’s a great question!” I might reply.
Well, I don’t have a ton of info, but here’s what I know. TAAFI stands for “Toronto Animation Arts Festival International”. It’s a brand new animation festival that is launching this year and will have it’s inaugural event in June of 2012 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox Centre in downtown Toronto. TAAFI has established a board of directors, and TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival), one of the most well-known and regarded film festivals in the world, is marginally involved in a mentorship capacity.
I’m excited, and anxious to see what kind of an identity this festival establishes itself, particularly alongside the Ottawa International Animation Festival. There’s definitely room for another event like this at the other end of the calendar and if they do this right, they could be a wonderful complement to the Ottawa Festival.
