The Canada Media Fund (CMF) announces the reopening of their funding incentive for the development of screen-based projects between Canadian and Northern Ireland producers. This includes TV, web series, video games and trans media projects. So not features. It’s not animation specific, so there’s likely LOTS of competition for the $200K. You can get listed on the CMF site as a potential coproduction partner and read the guidelines here: https://cmf-fmc.ca/news/canada-and-northern-ireland-reopen-their-co-development-incentive/
Kidscreen is reporting that Indian studio, 88 Pictures, has opened a Toronto office, hiring Canadian industry vets to run it, in an attempt to establish themselves as a “Canadian” company. More companies are doing this, backed by foreign investment. It’s a solid approach. 88 Pictures is mainly a VFX shop, but they’ve stated their aim to get into original content. https://kidscreen.com/2023/06/08/indias-88-pictures-opens-new-toronto-office/
Nelvana’s got a bunch of shows coming to Corus-owned channels. (including a short film that I’m now genuinely curious about.) https://www.animationmagazine.net/2023/06/nelvana-delivers-8-canadian-originals-to-treehouse-and-ytv/
