Prop Designer
RESPONSIBILITIES:
– Work with project Art Director and Directors
– Design props for interior and exterior environments in the style of the production
– Make any changes or revisions and re-submit to Art Director or Directors for approval
– Communicate with Department Coordinator and Production Manager regarding status of work and any problems that arise
– Support & maintain the artistic vision of all phases of the series from pre-production through final episode delivery
– Ensure prop assets are of the highest artistic quality, and uphold the integrity of the overall series aesthetic and artistic vision of the project as a whole
– Undertake research and information gathering prior to the commencement of new designs based on references and direction given by Art Director (basing designs on existing animal physiology, or a specific historical period, for example)
– Resolve a range of artistic development issues, working with other team members (color stylists, design assistants, etc.)
– Actively improve skill set and abilities by keeping aware of current trends, techniques, and art methods
– Work with limited direction, and/or take feedback and iterate on designs as tasks progress, as directed by the Production group within schedule
– Ask appropriate questions to understand & complete all prop designs and task on schedule
– Ensure quality & style of show is achieved
QUALIFICATIONS:
– Strong traditional fine art skills, training and production experience (illustration, painting, composition, human anatomy / organic forms, color theory, perspective, 2D & 3D design)
– Strong drawing ability and a solid sense of design for 2D animation
– Proficient in the use of Harmony
– Ability to resolve a range of artistic development issues and working with other team members
– Possess strong time management and prioritization skills
– Ability to work with limited direction, and/or take feedback and iterate on designs, as directed by the Production group
– Communication, time management skills and team player
– Some previous episodic series or feature experience is desirable, but not essential
– Good communication, organizational, time management and interpersonal skills
– Bachelor’s Degree in illustration, animation, fine arts or equivalent
