guru studio, the award winning and internationally renowned animation facility in Toronto seeks a Background Designer/Painter for their original show Justin Time.
Justin Time is a “2d/3d Hybrid” production with a unique look. Visually, it pulls design influences from the likes of Mary Blair, Golden Book Illustrations and Samurai Jack. The Character designs are bright, colourful and highly refined using simple graphic shapes. Environments are rich and highly stylized with a blend of graphic shapes and painterly textures. The Animation style is energetic and playful and the direction of the show will make use of creative camera compositions and movement.
Responsibilities:
* Work with Senior Designer and Production Designer to illustrate backgrounds and assets to match the style of show.
* Produce prop, set and background art with attention to staging and composition (lighting)
* Take on various concept art tasks other than background design (character concept art, cover art, mock-ups etc.)
Job Requirements:
* Excellent drawing and painting skills and sense of colour.
* A solid understanding on how to arrive at a stylized “cartoon” look and how it relates to three dimensional space.
* Art school Diploma.
* Works well under pressure in a small studio environment.
* Experience with Photoshop and Illustrator
* Knowledge of other art/graphics software an asset.
* Previous experience working on a television series production an asset
* It is necessary for every applicant to provide a portfolio in digital format.

guru studio, the award winning internationally renowned animation house in Toronto, seeks an experienced video game producer to Line Produce an animated TV series.
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of five years experience as a line producer who understands the creative process from concept to delivery. They must be affable, innovative, and solution focused and will oversee the entire production of an animated series. They will work with the director to lead a diverse team of artists and technicians to deliver a high end series on budget and on schedule. This will be a one year contract position beginning immediately.
Skills and Qualifications:
* Proven track record in preparing and executing budgets + schedules for properties in production + development.
* Experience managing all aspects of production.
* Ability to negotiate contracts with artists, writers, audio designers, post production supervisors and any other outside vendors/suppliers.
* Experience managing a large crew, including 40+ artists, several supervisors and a Production Coordinator.
* Support the director’s vision for the series.

* A positive and proactive approach to problem solving with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
