Coming up this week: Naked Frames IV. Don’t know what that is? From their site:

“Put on by a shadowy council of artists, Naked Frames concerns itself with providing exposure to all things cool and all types of weird. Despite the growing number of film festivals in Toronto, there still remains a lack of venues for low-to-no-budget animation and music videos, as well as in-house collaborations that keep animators employed, happy and on their game.

These films flow below the more mainstream current, offering unique and startlingly original pieces. We applaud that sort of thing.”

Should be interesting as always – local indie animation stalwart Chris Mike Weiss curates some of the oddest and most unique animation done outside of the mainstream. Films will include work by Canadian Animation favourite Mike Geiger of Ottawa, Toronto stop-motion animator Neil Kingma and BC filmmaker Diego Maclean. All that and Toronto indie star Gentlemen Reg for $10? Can’t go wrong. At the Revue Cinema starting at 9 pm. More info at the official site.

Warren Leonhardt spent too much time watching tv, reading comics, or doodling in his math textbooks to really pay attention, but he thinks he was raised the Kootenays of British Columbia by two grownups and a sister. After realizing that cartoons and animated films don’t make themselves but were actually made by people, he decided to become one of those people. Over time he’s managed to fool companies like House of Cool, Disney Canada, Spümcø, Sony Pictures Animation, Blue Sky Studios and Corus into actually paying him money to draw funny pictures and generally goof around as a storyboard artist for animated features and television. He currently lives in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada with his long-suffering wife and toddler. In between drawing till his hand falls off and fending off the wildlife invading his property, he interviews people more interesting than himself for CAR.CA.

    Thanks so much for the plug!! (although it’s Mike, not Chris)

    Also of interest to animators is that this is one of the few* events hosted by an animated, talking wall.

    *I can’t say for sure, but it could be the only one.
